6 Month Update

August 16, 2017

With the new school year about to kick off, we wanted to take minute and reiterate our thanks to all of you that supported the OU Fishing Club this past year.  THANK YOU!

The money that was raised through this winter's Thousand's Strong Campaign helped propel our collegiate anglers through the spring.  We wrapped up ACA competition (Association of Collegiate Anglers) in May, finishing 44th out of 211 schools!  Thanks to you, we were able to send more student teams into competition, which assuredly boosted our rankings.  We've also been able to purchase some critical team gear and promotional items, as well as send several anglers to the 2017 Bassmaster Classic in Houston TX, where among other things, they helped host a children's fishing contest.

The summer has remained busy for the OU Fishing Club!  Aside from the typical planning that goes into club activities and the 2017/2018 tournament season, our anglers have made guest appearances across the state, helped support several non-profit organizations, competed in local-level tournaments, and have been actively recruiting for the new year.  We'll be starting this season with more members than we've ever had!  In typical angler fashion, club officers haven't wasted a minute, and our first meeting of the school year has already been scheduled for next week.

Thanks again for all your help and support - we wouldn't be able to do this without you!

Tight Lines,

OU Fishing Club @OUFishingClub

Campaign Conclusion Update

February 14, 2017

We made it to weigh-in with a big bag!  Thanks to your support, we exceeded our $2,500 goal!

The OU Fishing Club is a special place for a diverse group of OU students.  From the seasoned collegiate angler to the second-semester freshman that wants to learn more, one thing connects us all: the love for this sport.  Thanks to your generosity, we will be able to continue our growth as a team, uphold OU's prestige at the national level, and share our love for fishing with the next generation.

From all of us: thank you, and tight lines!

Week 3 Recap

February 06, 2017

With just a little bit of time before weigh-in, it's safe to say that the OU Fishing Club is feeling good about our catch!  We made it to our goal of $2500, and while we're still hoping for a strong performance this final week, we know that we'll be headed to the scales with our heads held high.  For that, we thank you!

February has stayed busy!  One of our two-person teams just returned from Sam Rayburn where they finished 32nd out of 132 teams!  The Club's officers met last week to elect new officers for the 2017 season, and have planned the first [non-fishing] club event of the year - bowling and laser tag, anyone?  With spring time quickly approaching, our anglers are in full-on preparation mode for the gauntlet of practices, tournaments, and public appearances.  Oh yeah, and school... don't forget school! :)

Again, thank you all for your help and support these past few weeks.  We sincerely appreciate your generosity in gifts, and your help getting the word out about this fundraiser.  We aren't loading the boat yet, as there is still a little bit of time, so please take this last opportunity to share a link to our Thousands Strong page (https://thousandsstrong.ou.edu/project/3789) with your friends, family, and fellow angers.

Tight lines!

Week 2 Recap

January 30, 2017

Time sure does fly when the bite is good - it's hard to believe we're starting our third week of this fundraising campaign!  Thanks to YOUR support and generosity, we are less than $200 from our goal, and we still have 11 days left.  Unlike a tournament in which there's a limit on the number of fish you can keep, we don't have to stop raising money once we've met our goal.  Please keep sharing our campaign link with your friends, family members, and fellow anglers. https://thousandsstrong.ou.edu/project/3789

Last week, two teams from the OU Fishing Club fished strong in the first College Bassmaster regional of 2017.  They are gearing up to send another team back to Texas THIS weekend for the first FLW regional tournament.  The Club's leaders are also meeting this week to elect new officers for the 2017 season.  Wintertime is busy time for these student anglers, and thanks to your help, we're starting the year off strong!

Thanks for all that you've done for us!

Week 1 Recap

January 23, 2017

What a strong start!  One week in, and we're well past the half-way point.  You could say that, at this point, we have a couple good fish in the live well. :) Thanks to an anonymous "kicker" on day one, we reached the $1000 mark within 24 hours!

Classes resumed last week, and the OU Fishing Club got together for their first meeting of 2017.  Believe it or not, the competitive season is already upon us, as we're actively gearing up for the Bassmaster Central Regional THIS THURSDAY at famed Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Lufkin, TX.  This is an important tournament for us, and thanks to your support, we won't break the bank getting there.

We sincerely appreciate all that you have done for us already.  Every dollar, Facebook post, Tweet, and email forward counts.  Please take this opportunity to share our campaign link (https://thousandsstrong.ou.edu/project/3789) with someone that loves fishing - we're getting close, but still need a couple keepers.
