The Big Event 2017
What The Big Event Is:
The Big Event is The University of Oklahoma's official day of community service. Every spring, over 6,000 students, faculty, and staff go into the Norman and Greater Oklahoma City metro area for one day of service. For the past seventeen years, students have participated in this event to show their appreciation to the surrounding community by completing service projects such as painting, yard work, and visiting with the elderly. This event is a completely student-run service project, which allows us to do our part for the community. We continually strive to unify both our campus and community by opening this event to every person at OU and all community organizations in need of help.
Why We Need Your Help:
Our goal is to continue to expand our work in the community and to continue to provide this opportunity for free for all involved. Unfortunately, due to economic downturns in the state and a drop in the university budget, this year we have lost our sponsored storage that houses all of the tools and supplies that we provide to our jobsites and volunteers. This has caused us to incur an unexpected large expense to store the thousands of tools that are used on our jobsites. Without these tools we cannot complete the service work that saves our jobsites an estimated $415,000 each year. We need your help to be able to pay for the storage of these tools and to continue to have the significant, positive impact on our community and campus that we have had for the past seventeen years.
The Big Event could not happen without the continued support of all of those who are a part of the OU Family! We truly appreciate your donation and your commitment to improving our community. It is only with your help that we can build community through service!
