A Thousand Thanks From Deer Creek

July 22, 2017

The 2017 OU Field School is over and we're busy in the lab processing all of the artifacts and data we collected. Your donations helped offset the costs for OU students, many of which want to pursue a career in archaeology. Thank you!

Field School is Almost Here!

June 02, 2017

The 2017 OU Archaeological Field School starts on Monday! We'll be working at two ancestral Wichita villages this summer, the Bryson Paddock site and Deer Creek.

Rains in Kansas and Oklahoma have caused many of the waterways to rise in the area and the roads out to Deer Creek are a tad muddy. We should get access to the site soon, but in the meantime, we'll have students start at the Bryson Paddock site excavating a trash mound and surveying nearby bluffs.

We have nine students from the University of Oklahoma and six students joining us from Oklahoma State University for this project. I'll post photos soon of our work and we'll send a special thank you video out to all of our donors. You made this possible and we are all grateful.

More soon!

Goal Met. Now let's exceed it!!

December 02, 2016

Hello Donors and Supporters,

I are so happy to report that we have met our goal of raising $7,000! This is due to the amazing support of alumni, faculty, staff, students, family, and so many who are interested and dedicated to Oklahoma archaeology. Thank you for donating to this campaign and for helping us get others excited about this project!

This could not have happened with yOU--let's celebrate reaching our goal and look to see how much more we can raise. We have four more days--let's hit $8000.

In gratitude,

Sarah Trabert

We are Thousands Strong!

December 02, 2016

Our campaign to raise $7000 to offset costs for students wanting to take the 2017 archaeological field school was a huge success! We had 65 donors from all over the country including students, OU faculty and staff, family, and others dedicated to Oklahoma's past help us raise $8710!

With your help, we're going to offer an amazing opportunity for our students that won't stretch their wallets. Planning is well underway to book campsites, arrange transportation, purchase equipment, and recruit students for this field school.

Thank you so very much for believing in this campaign and helping us smash our goal. We'll be sharing just how much you helped the project with the field school students and you can look for a special thank you video next summer after the field school ends. We look forward to updating you on this project--you have made a positive impact on the archaeology of Oklahoma!

80% and Growing!

November 21, 2016

We're 80% of the way to meeting our $7000 goal! Thank you so much to the 51 donors that have made this possible, we would not have raised this much without your generosity. Though we are not at 100% yet, we are confident that we will reach our goal by the December 1st deadline.

Please continue to share our Thousands Strong Campaign with your friends and family. 10 days left!!

Special Invite for Donors

November 14, 2016

We're a little more than halfway through our campaign and we're 46% of the way to our goal. Thank you so much for all those who have donated--it is so great to see how many people are supportive of this project!

I'm excited to announce that donors who give at least $100 will be invited to an evening reception at the OU Great Plains Archaeology lab after the field school is complete. Donors can tour OUr archaeology lab, meet the field school students who benefited from their gift, and hear about the Deer Creek excavations.

We'll also have some of the Deer Creek artifacts on display at this reception so you can see exactly how your donations helped support Oklahoma archaeology.

Thank you for all of your donations--anything from $5 to $500 is much appreciated!

What Students Learn on Field Schools

November 07, 2016

Thank you to everyone who has donated. We've raised 35% of our goal amount and there is plenty of time left for you help us reach $7000!

Field schools are essential for student learning and there is no real substitute!  Here is a former field school student talking about what she learned while taking the 2016 OU field school.

Please consider donating to make the 2017 field school a great experience for OUr students!

Five Reasons Why We Need Your Support

November 02, 2016

We've had a fantastic start to our campaign and we've raised $1665! But we still need your help.

Here are five reasons to support the OU archaeological field school:

1. Archaeological field schools help students get jobs! Students must have a field school to get a job in archaeology after graduation or to be competitive when applying for graduate school.

2. Field Schools teach important life skills. Students are taught how to work as a team in challenging conditions and we show them how important math and science can be to their daily lives.

3. Many students struggle with paying for their field school. Your donations will help us keep the costs down for all students wanting to take this very important class.

4. This encourages students to get interested in the history of Oklahoma. We want students to know more about the archaeology of where they live.

5. You would contribute to our understanding of Oklahoma archaeology. Oklahoma has a very complex and rich history and archaeological excavations such as this provide new insight into how peoples in the past lived and how their lives changed over time.
